Our verdict
A full-size, officially licensed recreation of the ZX Spectrum with a fully working keyboard, 48K and 128K compatibility and 48 built-in games including Manic Miner, The Hobbit and Head Over Heels. It plugs into your TV over HDMI (720p, 50 or 60Hz) and lets you load the Spectrum programs you already own from a USB stick.
Retro Games has added handy modern touches: four save slots per game, a rewind of up to 40 seconds, optional CRT filters, 4:3 or pixel-perfect display modes, 12 display frames and ULAplus extended colours. Classic Mode gives you the full ZX Spectrum experience with BASIC programming and virtual cassettes. Four USB ports take joysticks, gamepads and USB sticks.
In the box you get The Spectrum, an HDMI cable, a USB power lead and an introduction manual. Note that a USB power adapter (plug) is not included.
Our verdict: A faithful, well-loved way to replay classic ZX Spectrum games on a modern TV, as long as you have a spare USB plug to power it.
