Who we are
This website, truenorthtechx.com, is run by TrueNorth Tech X, an independent tech site and online shop based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. We are responsible for the personal data we collect through this site. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what your rights are under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
What data we collect
- Information you give us: for example, when you place an order, create an account, sign up to our newsletter, leave a comment or get in touch.
- Information collected automatically: such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, which our web server and some site features record as standard.
- Order details: your name, billing and delivery address, email address, phone number and what you bought. Card payments are handled by our payment provider; we don’t store your full card details.
Cookies
We use cookies, small files stored on your device, to make the site work. These include:
- Essential cookies that WordPress and our WooCommerce shop need, for example to keep items in your basket, keep you logged in and process checkout.
- WooCommerce order attribution, which records how you arrived at the site (for example from a search engine or a link) so we can see which pages lead to orders.
- Analytics: we may use analytics tools to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. Where we do, we use this information in aggregate to improve the site.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the shop may not work properly without essential cookies.
Amazon affiliate links
Some articles contain Amazon UK affiliate links. If you click one, Amazon may set its own cookies to record that you came from our site, so we can be paid a commission if you buy. Amazon’s use of your data is covered by Amazon’s own privacy notice, not ours. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
Other affiliate networks we work with, such as Awin and Webgains, may also set tracking cookies when you click a link to a retailer.
Newsletter
If you sign up to our newsletter, we store your email address only to send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email, and we’ll stop sending it.
Our headset quiz
Our gaming headset quiz may store the answers you give so it can show your result, and so we can see how the quiz is used and improve it. If the quiz ever asks for contact details, providing them is optional and we’ll only use them for the purpose stated at the time.
Shop orders
Our shop runs on WooCommerce. We use your order details to process, deliver and support your order, and to deal with returns. We keep order records for as long as we need to for legal, tax and accounting reasons.
Who we share data with
We only share personal data where it’s needed to run the site and shop, for example with our web host, payment providers and delivery companies, or where the law requires it. We don’t sell your personal data.
How long we keep data
We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- ask us to correct data that’s wrong
- ask us to delete your data, where we don’t need to keep it for legal reasons
- object to or ask us to restrict how we use your data
- ask for your data in a portable format
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent (for example, the newsletter)
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk. We’d appreciate the chance to sort it out with you first.
